Never in my life have I been the kind of girl who has a lot of...

Never in my life have I been the kind of girl who has a lot of guy friends. I am a complete dork, which rules out anyone wanting me as a girlfriend, I don't sleep around, which rules out anyone wanting me as a hookup. And I am horribly uninteresting which takes out the whole friendship thing with a guy.

When I started working as a tutor in the library my second year of college, I was surprised when I met my coworker. He was a blonde hair, blue eyed lifeguard, who models for Hollister (go figure) and had every girl at my work drooling over him. He was so the opposite of my type, and I avoided him for quite some time because I assumed that he would be rude or stuck up. I have acquired the philosophy over the years that all men are assholes (sure seems that way sometimes, doesn't it?) because I haven't been close to too many, and the males I went to high school with did a pretty good job of helping me establish that.

As the semester went on, we started to get to know each other and I began to realize how nice and genuine and down to earth this guy really was. Not only did I wrongly assume how his personality would be, but I limited myself down on the friendships I could have by presuming that he wasn't worth the effort.

I'm leaving to visit an orphanage in Indonesia on Saturday, and today was my last day of work. He brought me in an ice cream cake, and before I left he handed me this letter. He changed my perspective on judging people, I never stopped to assume that I had any impact on him. The best part of my entire relationship with him was that we have always been based on pure friendship.

I never had to worry about being flirty, or leading him on, or him receiving things a certain way. I finally got a sense of what it is like to have a natural relationship with someone based on trust, genuinely wanting what's best for one another, and fully appreciating what the other has to offer.

Also, this letter kind of made my day.

"If you meet someone whose soul is not aligned with yours, send them love and move along."
